What is GOTS?

What GOTS covers for us

GOTS — Global Organic Textile Standard — is an independent certification that follows a textile from field to finished product. Every stage in the chain — spinning, dyeing, sewing and processing — must meet the standard's requirements.

We cannot declare a product GOTS certified ourselves. That requires an accredited third party who has reviewed and approved the production.

Our GOTS certification covers selected styles in cotton and denim — pants, dresses, skirts, jackets and waistcoats. Knitwear, t-shirts, accessories and home textiles are not covered.

What does the standard require?

Four core areas

Organic raw materials
At least 95% of the fibres must be certified organic. Grown without artificial fertiliser, GMOs or harmful pesticides.
Chemicals
All chemicals used in production must be approved. Formaldehyde, heavy metals and harmful auxiliary substances are not allowed. We test selected products according to GOTS 7.
Working conditions
GOTS requires that the ILO's core conventions are observed at every stage of production. Our own Code of Conduct also requires a living wage.
Two types of documentation
A scope certificate shows that the producer is approved. A transaction certificate documents the individual delivery. Both are issued by a third party.
Verification

Look up the certificate

Our supplier's GOTS licence has the number USB 006158 and can be looked up in GOTS' public database. The certificate is issued by USB Certification, accredited by IOAS under number 112.
