Materials, Production & Certifications

Here you can read about which materials we use, where we produce, and which certifications our products are covered by.

Klitmøller Collective since 2013

Responsibility at Klitmøller Collective

We design clothing to be worn, not thrown away. That places demands on the materials and on those we produce with.

We work with GOTS and OCS certified cotton, mulesing-free wool and TENCEL™ Lyocell from Lenzing. The certifications apply to selected styles and are checked by an independent third party — you can see which further down the page.

Code of Conduct

Our principles

We have a Code of Conduct that all our suppliers sign. It sets the framework for working conditions, ethics and animal welfare in our partnerships.

Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct prohibits child labour, forced labour and discrimination, and requires safe working conditions. All suppliers sign it.

Our suppliers

We know our suppliers and visit them regularly. Several of the partnerships have lasted more than ten years.

Mulesing-free wool

Mulesing-free wool is a requirement in our agreements with wool suppliers. It applies to all wool in our products.

Checks

Our certifications are checked by an independent third party at every stage of production.

Materials & production

We work primarily with wool, organic cotton, lyocell and linen. The cuts are classic and stay in production across several seasons, so a style can be bought again once the previous one is worn out.

Wool

Wool regulates temperature and keeps you warm even when damp. Our wool is mulesing-free or recycled.

Organic cotton

Organic cotton is grown without pesticides and artificial fertiliser. A large part of our cotton is GOTS or OCS certified.

Lyocell / TENCEL™

Made from wood cellulose in a closed loop, where over 99% of the solvents are recycled. Produced by Lenzing AG.

Linen

Strong and absorbent — linen dries faster than cotton and is comfortable in warm weather.

Mulesing-free — a requirement we set

All wool in our products is free from mulesing — a practice where skin is removed from the sheep's hindquarters to prevent parasites. It is not a certificate we hold, but a requirement we set for all our wool suppliers.

Our partners

Where we produce

We produce in Europe and Asia. All suppliers sign our Code of Conduct, and we visit them regularly.

What we require

Production requirements

Chemicals & wastewater

GOTS sets requirements for chemicals, wastewater and waste management in production. The requirements are checked by an independent third party.

Working conditions

Our suppliers sign our Code of Conduct. GOTS also sets its own independent requirements for working conditions.

The ocean

Every year we organise a beach clean-up in Klitmøller and support organisations working for the marine environment.
