Lenzing TENCEL™ Lyocell & Modal
Fibres made from wood pulp in a closed loop, where the solvent is recirculated. Produced by Lenzing AG.
From forest to fibre
TENCEL™ is a trademark belonging to the Austrian company Lenzing AG, which produces fibres from wood pulp from FSC and PEFC certified forestry. The production process takes place in a closed loop, where the solvents are recirculated rather than released.
We use two types: TENCEL™ Lyocell and TENCEL™ Modal. Lyocell is used for outerwear and t-shirts — it is strong, absorbs moisture and is soft. Modal is used mainly in jumpers and close-fitting knitwear, where it is softer and more elastic.
The figures on this page are Lenzing's own and apply to their production of the fibre.
The closed loop
What sets TENCEL™ apart from many other man-made fibres is the Lyocell process — a closed system where the solvent NMMO is recirculated instead of being released.
